Luxury Brooklyn Estate Seeks $12.49M After Comprehensive, High-End Restoration

Prospect Park South mansion, once called a "Colonial Revival on steroids," returns to market with major renovation.

A
22-room mansion in Prospect Park South, Brooklyn, has hit the market for $12.49 million, making it the most expensive listing in the neighborhood. The Colonial Revival-style home, dubbed "a Grand Dame of the neighborhood," boasts a stunning facade with large eaves, unique windows, and soaring Ionic columns.

The 11,450-square-foot mansion was restored to its former pre-war splendor by its current owner, an architect who has owned it for eight years. The property features nine bedrooms, seven-and-a-half bathrooms, and a grand staircase. The interior design is characterized by rich mahogany, coffered ceilings, and numerous fireplaces.

The home's exterior was transformed with dramatic renovations, including bathroom, kitchen, roof, plumbing, and central air upgrades. The pocket doors, fireplace mantels, and 66 wood-framed windows were also restored to their original glory.

The mansion's impressive features include a chef's kitchen with a 10-foot island, marble farm sink, and its own fireplace; a mahogany-clad dining room; and a cozy library on the first floor. The third floor was converted into an entertainment room with a decadent bar and spiral staircase leading to a reading nook.

The private backyard, complete with a large stone patio and green lawn, offers a tranquil oasis in the midst of the city. According to listing representative Mike Lubin, "You feel like you're in Connecticut or Long Island – it doesn't feel like an urban garden."

Built by architect Henry B. Moore in 1905, this landmarked home has been featured in several films and TV shows, including "Reversal of Fortune" and "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit." The next owner will join a list of esteemed neighbors, including actress Michelle Williams, who owns an 18-room mansion just down the block.
