Mark Cuban's Politics vs. Personal Business Ties to Trump

Dallas mogul buys 45th-floor Trump Tower condo for $13.5M in 2000.

M
ark Cuban, billionaire entrepreneur and "Shark Tank" star, has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump in recent years. However, records reveal that Cuban has quietly owned a luxurious condo in the Trump International Hotel and Tower on Central Park West for nearly 25 years. The Dallas-based mogul purchased the 3,700-square-foot property on the 45th floor of the iconic tower in July 2000 for $13.5 million.

Located at 1 Central Park West, the condo boasts stunning views of Central Park and Manhattan, along with access to five-star amenities such as a health club, pool, and room service from Michelin-starred Jean-Georges. The unit features four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a huge living area with two walls of windows, and a formal dining room with city views.

Cuban has been a vocal supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris and a frequent critic of Trump, yet he has held onto this prime piece of New York real estate. Living in the Trump International Hotel and Tower comes with perks such as 24-hour doorman and concierge service, a fully appointed health club and spa, and valet parking.

Cuban's decision to own a condo in the Trump building may seem contradictory given his public criticism of the former president. However, it appears that luxury real estate in a prime location takes precedence over politics for Cuban. The investor has backed Trump in the past but recently expressed disappointment with his presidency, stating that he "kind of grew out of it." Despite this, Cuban worked with Trump during the COVID-19 pandemic and would do so again if necessary.

Cuban's condo purchase was made through The Radical Revocable Trust, a company he oversees as trustee. The property deed transferred ownership to his trust in 2000 and includes specifications of the unit's layout and rights to shared amenities. Cuban has a wide-ranging real estate portfolio that also includes properties in California and Florida.
