he stock market opened on a positive note on Monday, March 3, with auto, metal, and real estate stocks leading the gains. The benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 417.56 points or 0.57 per cent to reach 73,615.66 at 9:20 am. The broader NSE Nifty opened 127.75 points up or 0.58 per cent in the green, reaching 22,252.45.
UltraTech Cement led the gains among Sensex stocks, rising by 3 per cent to ₹10,417.35. Mahindra & Mahindra and Larsen & Toubro also saw significant gains, rising by 2.72 per cent and 1.66 per cent respectively. Only six of the Sensex stocks were in the red.
Among Nifty sectoral indices, the Nifty Auto Index rose the most by 1.37 per cent to reach 20,779.90. The Nifty Metal index also saw a significant gain, rising by 1.24 per cent to reach 8,321.30.
In contrast, IT, telecom, and auto stocks had plummeted during the previous session on Friday, with the Nifty plunging 1.9 per cent in its largest decline since October 3. The Sensex closed 1,414.33 points or 1.90 per cent into the red, while the NSE Nifty was down by 420.35 points or 1.86 per cent.
However, the release of India's Q3 GDP growth at 6.2 per cent provided some relief in the current volatile environment. Among Sensex stocks, HDFC Bank was the only one to close in the green, rising by 1.86 per cent to ₹1,731.10.
