Redfin user data briefly exposed due to technical glitch

Earlier this month, an incident let home shoppers view other users’ contact info; it was fixed within a week.

A
technical glitch on Redfin’s site earlier this month briefly exposed the names, phone numbers and email addresses of some users. When visitors viewed listings, contact forms would auto‑populate with details from previous users. The data stayed visible for a short time, and remained on screen for those with JavaScript disabled. The issue was discovered and corrected within a week. Initially the fix applied only to desktop users, then a second update covered mobile.

Redfin’s spokesperson said the error “was active for less than a week and was remediated as soon as we were made aware of it.” The company did not disclose how many people were affected.

The breach came after a busy year for Redfin. In 2025 the firm cut jobs, partnered with Zillow on rental listings, and was acquired by Rocket Companies for $1.75 billion in March. Rocket CEO Varun Krishna told investors that the merger aims to deliver “end‑to‑end integration to housing at a scale the industry has never seen.” On the brokerage side, Redfin’s Next program has lifted agent earnings, with a 14 % average increase in pay since its nationwide launch a little over a year ago.
