Renovated LA Estate of TV Icon Bob Barker Lists for $8.19M

British interior designer Julia Dempster brings her touch to this residence, showcasing breathtaking interiors.

T
he iconic Los Angeles home of the late game show host Bob Barker is back on the market with a price tag of $8.19 million, following a meticulous year-long renovation by its new owner, British interior designer Julia Dempster.

Dempster purchased the Spanish Colonial Revival estate in April 2024 for $3.78 million, outbidding 15 other interested buyers. What drew her to the property wasn't its celebrity history, but rather its stunning original architecture and unique features like arched doorways, ironwork, and a clay tile roof.

Built in 1929, the roughly 5,900-square-foot property had been owned by Barker for over half a century without any major changes. Dempster undertook the renovation with reverence for the home's original character, making every intervention with respect to its architecture.

To preserve the historic charm, she restored or replicated original elements like the iron balustrade and wood doors where possible. However, some features, such as the original wood floors, were beyond repair due to water damage and had to be replaced.

Dempster's light-touch approach also included modernizing the kitchen with contemporary finishes and reimagining the bathrooms with marble shower walls and gold fixtures. The listing, held by George Ouzounian and Jordan Ginsburg of the Agency, describes six bedrooms, including two primary suites, as well as an expansive dressing room that could be converted into a seventh bedroom.

Outside, Dempster focused on subtle improvements to maintain the home's timeless appeal, repairing patio stones around the pool, adding a barbecue, and repainting the exterior. Even the roof was redone in a way that blends seamlessly with its original design.

Bob Barker's renovated LA estate listed for sale at $8.19 million.
