Roanoke City Council Agenda: Reassessments, Development Projects Up for Review

Roanoke City Council to discuss reassessments and vote on rezonings at Tuesday's meeting.

R
oanoke residents may have recently received notifications about real estate value reassessments from the city. On Tuesday, KC Bratton, director of real estate valuation, will present to the council a proposal for city-wide reassessments.

The council will also consider rezoning recommendations made by the planning commission last week: Riverdale in Southeast Roanoke and the old Walker Machine & Foundry property. The proposed reassessments show an 8.23% increase in total assessed value, with residential values rising 10.92%.

Residents have until February 5 to appeal their reassessments. The city had previously projected a 9.98% total increase and 12% rise in residential values for fiscal year 2024-2025.

The planning commission recommended rezoning for Riverdale and the Foundry property, which would allow for Urban Center District designation. Riverdale's first phase includes a 260-unit apartment complex and mixed-use developments. The Foundry project aims to incorporate Norwich's history and feature an active community with amenities like restaurants and pickleball courts.

Both rezonings were recommended without opposition from the commission or public attendees. The full agenda for Tuesday's meeting can be viewed online, with the reassessment discussion at 2 p.m. and rezoning at 7 p.m. in the city council chamber.
