A
long-standing feud between Bay Area real estate agent Max Lo and his former girlfriend's ex-husband, Charles Mei, has escalated into a bizarre smear campaign targeting Lo's business. The dispute began after Lo started dating Vanessa Lo (no relation), who had recently left an allegedly abusive relationship with Mei in 2020.
Flyers bearing Lo's company name and contact details have been appearing on car windshields across San Francisco for over a year, featuring a selfie of Lo making an obscene gesture alongside Vanessa. Max claims Mei is behind the campaign to damage his and his father's realty business, Green Banker. The flyers also include contact information for both father and son.
Max has shared evidence of chat and email exchanges with strangers who found the flyers, as well as video footage showing a person in a white jacket slipping flyers under windshields. He estimates that tens of thousands of letters have been sent to address the smear campaign. A restraining order was taken out against Mei in June 2022 after incidents in Burlingame and Hillsborough.
Mei has allegedly written defamatory comments about Max and Green Banker on online platforms such as Zillow, Yelp, and Redfin. Vanessa Lo claims that the harassment began after she left her relationship with Mei and started dating Max. Despite separating three months ago, both Max and Vanessa say the harassment continues.
In one peculiar incident, a couple found a flyer in their brand-new Kia's glove compartment. A woman who purchased a Kia Niro from a dealership in Colma reported finding a flyer in her vehicle, which she believed was left by someone on the lot. The dealership has denied any involvement.
Max spends about two hours weekly dealing with the fallout of the harassment and has received calls from residents across San Francisco who have found the flyers. He claims to have hired a private investigator to document the harassment, citing violent text messages allegedly sent by Max to Mei as evidence.
