pendoor, a digital platform for residential real estate, recently released a report ranking the most popular ZIP codes in America. To determine the top ZIP codes, Opendoor analyzed data from local Multiple Listing Services (MLS) where their brokerage operates and ranked them based on total homes that went into contract within 90 days of being listed for sale in 2024.
According to Nick Boniakowski, Head of Agent Partnerships at Opendoor, the most popular areas are known for being fast-growing cities with new development. "Buyers want to be close enough to big city action while still enjoying smaller city or suburban charm," he explains. Texas dominates the top 10 list, with six cities making the cut.
Katy, Texas, ranked as the No. 1 most popular ZIP code for homebuyers, with a median listing price of $379,900 and a median rent of $2,100. Boniakowski attributes Katy's success to job growth, new development, and relatively affordable housing options. The area is close to Houston, which has seen significant job growth and is home to many major corporations.
The top 10 most popular ZIP codes for homebuyers are:
1. Katy, Texas
2. Cypress, Texas
3. San Antonio, Texas
4. New Braunfels, Texas
5. Summerville, South Carolina
6. Forney, Texas
7. Yukon, Oklahoma
8. Clarksville, Tennessee
9. Parrish, Florida
10. Kyle, Texas
Cypress, the second most popular ZIP code, offers residents a mix of housing inventory, job growth, and proximity to Houston. The average home value in Cypress is $404,577, up 0.8% over the past year, according to Zillow.
