East 59th Street is an eight-story retail and office redevelopment on Manhattan's Upper East Side, developed by Ripco Real Estate with marketing by SERHANT. The project involves a comprehensive overhaul of the building's exterior and interior, featuring updated retail space, column-free office space above, and two full-service amenity floors including a private lounge and rooftop terrace. Spanning 45,350 square feet, the commercial property is situated on an interior lot at East 59th Street and Fifth Avenue.
The contemporary design boasts light-colored paneling with diamond-shaped cutouts, complemented by floor-to-ceiling glass windows behind the outer framework. A small rectangular volume on the first two levels features a straightforward set of glass panels. The rooftop terrace is lined with clear glass railings.
Recent photographs show the building under construction, with metal scaffolding and wooden boards obscuring the ground level. A large banner advertises the upcoming arrival of Avi & Co., a high-end watch and jewelry firm that will occupy the retail space. 5 East 59th Street was previously home to the Playboy Club between 1962 and 1986.
The building is located near the 5th Avenue – 59th Street subway station, which services the N, R, and W trains. The property was sold to Avi Hiaeve, founder of Avi & Co., for $26 million in January 2024 through a foreclosure auction. An anticipated completion date has yet to be announced.
