A
wealthy real estate developer from Colorado was fatally shot at a luxury resort in Belize, with authorities now believing it was a targeted attack. Boris Mannsfeld, founder of Boris Mannsfeld and Associates, was found dead on Friday evening at the Villas of Cocoplum, a high-end residential community in Maya Beach. He had been shot once in the back of the neck and lay next to his wallet and ID.
A 9mm pistol registered to Mannsfeld and a bullet shell casing were discovered near the scene. As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made. Belize's police commissioner, Chester Williams, described the shooting as "a deliberate and planned act of violence."
Mannsfeld had moved to Belize in 2006 after falling in love with the country on his first trip in 1992. He had recently returned from a trip abroad, following the deaths of two associates, Ricardo Borja and Darren Taylor, whose cases remain unsolved. Another associate, Frik De Meyere, is being questioned in connection with Mannsfeld's murder.
Mannsfeld spent over three decades investing in and developing Belize real estate, including the Villas of Cocoplum. Authorities are exploring possible connections between Mannsfeld's death and the previous killings, but no clear link has been established.
