redrik Eklund, a real estate mogul and star of Million Dollar Listing New York, is well-versed in the latest trends in high-end housing. His celebrity clients, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Nick Jonas, and Jennifer Lopez, demand bespoke amenities that cater to their unique preferences for privacy. Currently, the must-have feature among wealthy homeowners is at-home biohacking, which includes infrared saunas, IV drips, cold plunges, and hot tubs.
This wellness trend has been gaining momentum over time, with entrepreneurs like Dave Asprey and Bryan Johnson advocating for "biohacking" to achieve success. Business leaders such as Jack Dorsey, Melinda French Gates, and Guy Fieri have also adopted cold soaks into their routines. However, Eklund notes that his high-end clients now want these amenities in the comfort of their own homes.
Eklund is currently working on a building project that features cold plunge pools, hot tubs, and infrared saunas within individual apartments, not just in common areas or spas. These luxury features come with a hefty price tag, ranging from $2,000 to $13,000 per unit. One of his previous projects, 40 Bleeker St. in Manhattan, was one of the first properties to offer these amenities, including IV drips.
The trend is expected to continue, with Eklund stating that it's "intensifying." He cites an example from a few years ago where he sold out a building that featured headache-saving IV drips on the ground floor. This amenity was designed for clients who wanted convenience and luxury in their daily lives.
Other high-profile individuals have also adopted biohacking as part of their wellness routines. Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management, starts his day with a dip in the ocean followed by a sauna session, which he credits to his happiness. Jason Buechel, leading Whole Foods, has a daily routine that includes infrared saunas and cold plunges. Nick Green, cofounder and CEO of Thrive Market, swears by hot-cold therapy and has installed a barrel sauna and ice bath on the balcony of his bedroom.
