arquette Companies is leading a mixed-use expansion near White Oak Music Hall. The Illinois-based developer plans to build a 20,000-square-foot retail and restaurant complex in Houston's Near Northside, the second phase of its envisioned White Oak District. Construction on the retail component is expected to start next year, aiming to transform the neighborhood into a vibrant, walkable area.
The developer's first major project in the district, Tempo at White Oak, is under construction across from the retail site. This six-story apartment building will feature 304 units and retail space, with rents ranging from $1,500 to $3,000. Marquette Managing Director Chris Yuko said their projects will revitalize Keene Street by adding residences and retail options.
Yuko's inspiration for the district came after attending a concert at White Oak Music Hall, where he realized the need for local restaurants and shops. The area has seen recent growth with new venues like H-Town Brewing and Woodland Social. Retail development is rare due to high construction costs and lending difficulties, but Marquette's projects aim to bring more options to the neighborhood.
