PORR GmbH & Co. KGaA has signed a long-term 15-year lease agreement for office spaces in the Timber Pioneer at Europa-Allee 92 in Frankfurt am Main. Several central service areas of the company will be consolidated across nearly 1,000 square metres. The new location strategically positions PORR in Frankfurt's Europaviertel, in direct proximity to the F.A.Z.-Tower, strengthening its presence in one of Germany's leading construction and infrastructure regions.
The relocation within Frankfurt aims to optimise internal collaboration between various disciplines. In the future, teams from building construction, civil engineering, and specialist foundation engineering, as well as H+E Haustechnik und Elektro GmbH, will work under one roof. This consolidation is designed to shorten distances, simplify coordination processes, and enable closer integration of specialist departments for complex construction projects. Marko Lehmann, Technical Managing Director for Building Construction at PORR GmbH & Co. KGaA, emphasised that the move represents a targeted development of the Frankfurt site and creates optimal conditions for teamwork.
The Timber Pioneer as a progressive building
The Timber Pioneer, realised by UBM Development, is Frankfurt's first office building constructed in timber-hybrid style. The building comprises approximately 15,800 square metres of rental space, distributed over seven full floors and a staggered storey, reaching a height of about 37 metres. Around 1,800 cubic metres of FSC-certified spruce were used for the construction, with a large proportion of the timber supports remaining visible and serving static functions.
Christian Berger, Chairman of the Management Board at UBM Development Deutschland, highlighted the significance of a construction company like PORR establishing itself in the Timber Pioneer. He stated that this confirms that timber construction is not merely an alternative to conventional building but forms an essential part of future construction practice. According to the developer, the building's timber-hybrid construction allows for significant savings compared to conventional new builds.
- —Reduction of CO2 emissions by approximately 80 percent.
- —Saving of about 40 percent in materials.
- —Decrease in transport effort by approximately 30 percent.
The building has already been awarded a DGNB Gold pre-certificate, which underscores the Timber Pioneer's sustainability standards. PORR, whose parent company was founded in Vienna in 1869, is one of Europe's most traditional construction companies and covers a broad spectrum of the construction industry in Germany, with its headquarters in Munich – from planning and engineering to specialist construction and environmental technology.
