Shell construction work has begun for the new fire station in Heuchelheim an der Lahn. Peter Gross Bau has been entrusted with the earthworks and shell construction for the project. The construction project, one of the municipality's most extensive in recent years, involves the erection of a building complex that meets modern requirements for the operational deployment of the voluntary fire brigade. The total area of the new building amounts to approximately 2,470 square metres, designed for the accommodation and operation of up to 15 emergency vehicles.
The design of the fire station is divided into a two-storey social wing and an associated vehicle hall. This is supplemented by an independent, over 14-metre-high training tower. The tower enables realistic training conditions. The total length of the building will be approximately 130 metres and will include 15 gates. Around 2,660 cubic metres of concrete and 340 tonnes of reinforcing steel are planned for the shell construction, underscoring the scale of the undertaking.
Technical Details and Area Efficiency
Particular attention was paid to the technical equipment and spatial utilisation. The roof area of the vehicle hall is designed as a parking space for employees, which increases the demands on structural planning, waterproofing, and execution quality. The vehicle hall itself will have industrial underfloor heating and is designed to withstand the significant stresses of daily fire brigade operations. The exposed concrete façade of the vehicle hall is an architecturally defining feature, complemented by selected wall areas in the social wing, which will be executed to quality level SB3.
Sebastian Saar, the branch manager of Peter Gross Bau in Gießen, stated that the fire station would create a future-proof location that combines functionality, economic efficiency, and architectural standards. He emphasised that the specific usage areas, exposed concrete surfaces, and roof utilisation required a high degree of coordination and execution quality. Lars Burkhard Steinz, the mayor of Heuchelheim an der Lahn, underlined the necessity of the new building for the voluntary fire brigade to provide modern spaces for the challenges of disaster prevention.
Timeline and Investment Volume
The completion of the shell construction work is scheduled for October 2026, with the full completion of the building expected by the end of 2027. The investment volume for this construction project amounts to approximately 15.9 million EUR. The project represents an investment in the community's infrastructure and the operational capability of its voluntary fire brigade.
