A significant milestone has been reached for the new Pforzheim Social Services Centre project. Following extensive negotiations as part of the tender for general contractor services in building construction, STADTBAU GmbH PFORZHEIM and the construction company Köster signed the corresponding contract on 25 August 2026. The contract signing took place at the premises of STADTBAU GmbH PFORZHEIM. With the awarding of these building construction services, a decisive step towards the realisation of the project has been taken.
The project involves the development of a modern urban building block on a site between Leopoldstraße, Zerrennerstraße, and Lammstraße. This city centre location will connect various uses in the future. A new building with a gross floor area of approximately 12,000 square metres will be constructed, integrating a diverse mix of uses. On the ground floor, an EDEKA supermarket with around 2,200 square metres of retail and ancillary space will be established. Access to this market will be from two sides, ensuring open integration into the inner-city environment.
The upper floors of the new building will house modern working environments for approximately 390 employees of the Youth and Social Welfare Office of the City of Pforzheim. The new Social Services Centre aims to combine functional requirements with a pleasant working atmosphere and a central, easily accessible location. This aspect is important for urban infrastructure and underlines the public benefit of the project.
Barbara Früh, Managing Director of STADTBAU GmbH PFORZHEIM, stated that the negotiations were characterised by a constructive yet intense struggle for the best solutions and framework conditions for this significant project. In addition to the economic terms, Köster's convincing overall package was particularly decisive. The various components collectively tipped the scales in favour of the decision. She expressed confidence in having found the right partner in Köster and looks forward to a successful and trusting collaboration.
Bernd Reutter, Managing Director of Köster GmbH, expressed his delight at the trust placed in them and the awarding of the contract for the realisation of this construction project. He described it as a special task to be able to contribute to the revitalisation and further development of this prominent inner-city location. He extended his thanks to all parties involved for the open, professional, and constructive communication throughout the negotiation phase.
Thomas Männel, Managing Director of NEWCO SERVICE DEVELOPMENT GmbH, added that within the scope of their service development, it was an equally exciting and demanding task to analyse the submitted offers in detail and to establish a reliable comparability of the various services and contract models. He thanked all applicants and participants for the trusting and professional discussions. Ultimately, nuances gave the decisive edge to the chosen decision, which illustrates the precision of the selection process.
