Singapore-headquartered global hospitality company The Ascott Limited is continuing its European expansion and recently commenced operations at lyf George Square Glasgow. This marks the first presence in the Scottish hotel market for the lyf brand, an acronym for 'live your freedom'. With its specific social living approach, the property targets primarily city travellers, young business professionals and individuals working in the creative industries.

Both architecturally and operationally, the concept combines private living units with communal areas for focused work, dining and recreation. Alongside in-house event formats, the property provides direct links to the local urban community.

Historic location in the Merchant City district

The property is situated in the Merchant City quarter, one of Glasgow's most historic districts with roots in the 18th century. Today's surroundings are characterised by restored Victorian architecture and established retail pitches along Buchanan Street. Cultural institutions such as the Gallery of Modern Art, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and George Square are within a walking distance of less than 15 minutes. Argyle Street station is located 400 metres from the site.

The hotel comprises a total of 89 guest rooms across four different categories as well as two suites, with floor areas ranging between 15 and 28 square metres. Functional amenities include integrated co-working areas, conference and event spaces, a restaurant offering a modern interpretation of regional cuisine, and a bar serving local spirits. Dedicated parking facilities and a bicycle-based mobility service complete the property's spatial and operational programme.

Pipeline and European growth by 2027

Following existing locations in Vienna, Frankfurt and Paris, the entry into Glasgow marks the expansion of the brand's presence across the British Isles. In developing the European market, the company is focusing primarily on strategic major city locations and plans to open three further hotel projects in the region by 2027:

  • —lyf Chelsea London in the immediate vicinity of Stamford Bridge Stadium
  • —lyf Piccadilly Manchester
  • —lyf Liberties Dublin

At a global level, the lyf brand portfolio currently comprises 40 operational hotels. A further 15 properties are in various stages of development planning.
