On the site of the former post office building in Deggendorf, ERL Immobiliengruppe has completed a prominent urban transformation. With the official inauguration of the project Wohnen an der Poststraße, the company has handed over a new inner-city quarter for its intended use. Where a commercial building that had fallen into disrepair over the years once shaped the streetscape, a contemporary architectural ensemble now stands.
Revitalisation of the central site on Poststraße
The redevelopment on Deggendorf's Poststraße serves as an example of the conversion of inner-city brownfield land. In place of the former existing building, a residential scheme has been created that meets modern construction standards. Functionally and energetically, the former post office building no longer met today's requirements, which is why demolition followed by new construction paved the way for the redesign.
For Deggendorf, the completion represents a noticeable enhancement of this central street. Repurposing the land provides additional housing in an established location. ERL Immobiliengruppe steered the scheme from the initial planning phases through the demolition of the old stock to the completion of the buildings.
Completion of delivery and occupation phase
With the completion of construction work and the formal inauguration, the quarter enters its occupation phase. The architecture of the new buildings adopts a clear structure and blends into the existing surroundings of Poststraße. In doing so, the scheme responds to ongoing demand for living space across the urban area.
The handover of the ensemble draws a line under a multi-year development period at this location. By purposefully replacing outdated commercial and infrastructure buildings with contemporary residential space, the Wohnen an der Poststraße project sets a distinct urban accent for Deggendorf.
