The auditing and consulting firm Grant Thornton in Germany has gained a new partner for its Audit & Assurance business unit. Cornelia Mercadal Vieira has been in this position since the beginning of August and will support the expansion of the auditing business in the Industry Clients sector in the Rhine-Main region from the Frankfurt office. This appointment underscores Grant Thornton's strategic focus on strengthening its presence in this key region.

Cornelia Mercadal Vieira brings extensive expertise, which she has acquired over two decades of professional experience with renowned consulting firms. Her expertise includes supporting complex audit engagements for medium-sized companies and groups in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Her specialisation is auditing companies in various sectors, including mechanical and plant engineering, the automotive industry, the chemical and pharmaceutical sector, and the real estate sector.

Focus on sector expertise and regional development

The new appointment reflects Grant Thornton's endeavour to deepen audit competencies in specific sectors. The team expansion is particularly significant for the Real Estate sector, as the demands on audit services in this dynamic sector are continuously increasing. Ms Mercadal Vieira's experience in this area will help Grant Thornton's clients receive comprehensive advice and auditing services.

Before joining Grant Thornton, Cornelia Mercadal Vieira worked for a Big Four firm and was most recently employed by Baker Tilly. These roles have provided her with a solid foundation for the complex tasks in her new position. Her arrival is part of Grant Thornton's broader expansion strategy in the Rhine-Main region, which aims for sustainable growth.

In recent months, Grant Thornton has already recruited further reinforcements for the Audit Industry Clients Team, including partners Christian Roos and Tobias Roth, as well as a ten-person team, also from Baker Tilly. Maximilian Meyer zu Schwabedissen, Head of Audit & Assurance and Partner at Grant Thornton in Germany, commented on the appointment. He emphasised that with Cornelia Mercadal Vieira, the growth plans for the Rhine-Main region are being consistently implemented and that she optimally complements the experienced team.
