IHG Hotels & Resorts, an internationally operating hotel company, has announced the signing of the agreement for the Crowne Plaza Vienna. The project, which will be realised in cooperation with FEURING Asset Management GmbH, marks the return of the Crowne Plaza brand to Austria. The opening is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
The hotel building, designed by Pritzker Prize laureate David Chipperfield, is stylistically inspired by the Austrian National Library. It will comprise 195 rooms, including 22 suites on the top floor, offering city views. The property is located in the Margareten district, strategically positioned between the Vienna State Opera and Schönbrunn Palace, with connections to public transport.
Certified with both the EU Ecolabel and the Austrian Eco-label, the Crowne Plaza Vienna is aimed at business and leisure travellers, as well as the 'bleisure' travel segment. For business events, five meeting rooms with natural light are available, offering capacities for up to 140 people. An underground car park with charging facilities for electric vehicles complements the offering.
Facilities and Positioning
The hotel concept integrates a restaurant with Austrian-inspired cuisine and regional products, a bar, and a rooftop terrace. A fitness and wellness area with urban views is also planned. The project signing comes during a period of increased demand in the Vienna tourism market; the city recorded over 20 million overnight stays in 2025, the highest result since records began.
Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed positivity about the brand's return to Austria and emphasised Vienna's suitability as a location for the Crowne Plaza concept, which focuses on thoughtful design and interactive guest experiences. She also highlighted the successful partnership with FEURING and referred to the existing growth potential. Matthias Lowin, Managing Partner of FEURING Asset Management GmbH, added that Crowne Plaza's focus on bleisure travel and targeted events aligns with the vision for the hotel. He stressed the importance of IHG's global reach for establishing the hotel in Vienna.
