Camber Property Group has hired James Allen as its new General Counsel for its affordable housing and community development transactions, Commercial Observer learned. Allen joins from the real estate law firm Hirschen Singer & Epstein and began his new position this week. He will support Camber on affordable housing projects in New York State and the Tri-State area.
James Allen previously spent four years as an associate at Nixon Peabody and served as Senior Staff Attorney at the New York Court of Appeals. He is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and also writes articles on housing equity and affordability. Furthermore, he is involved in the board of the New York Housing Conference's Rising Leaders Network and the Housing & Urban Development Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
Allen commented on current market developments: He observes a trend of more and more developers expanding both the types of projects they participate in and their geographical reach in their efforts to solve the ongoing affordable housing crisis. He stressed that Camber always thinks creatively about both, which presents unique challenges.
Allen expressed his delight at the opportunity to contribute his experience and work with many legal partners from whom he has learned over the years. This comes as Camber strengthens its presence in New York and deliberately expands its reach to other regions. Hirschen Singer & Epstein did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
