velyn M. Lee, FAIA, was inaugurated as the 101st president of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). With a unique blend of architectural expertise and technology-driven focus, Lee serves as an angel investor, startup advisor, and fractional Chief Operating Officer for small to medium-sized architecture firms.

    In her inauguration address, President Lee emphasized that the rapid pace of technological and environmental change presents both challenges and opportunities. She called on architects to lead with empathy, clarity, and courage, highlighting their potential to be agents of unity and progress. Despite transitioning from a traditional architectural career, Lee's passion for the field remains strong, fueled by her admiration for dedicated professionals who serve clients and positively impact communities.

    As a sought-after speaker, Lee shares insights on architecture practice evolution, leadership development, technology integration, and alternative careers. She is also a founding advisor for Women Defining AI, promoting diversity and inclusion in artificial intelligence. With this inauguration, the AIA marks its third consecutive year with all female leaders at the helm, following Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMAC, and Emily Grandstaff-Rice, FAIA.
