Ex-Premier League Star Trades Soccer for Cryptocurrency Passion

George Boyd joins Jacobi Asset Management as ambassador after 100+ Premier League appearances.

G
eorge Boyd, a former Premier League soccer player with over 100 appearances under his belt, has made a surprising career change. After discovering bitcoin in 2020, he now sees it as a superior savings tool compared to property or stocks. As an ambassador for Jacobi Asset Management, Boyd advocates for using bitcoin to create generational wealth.

Boyd's journey into bitcoin began during the Covid pandemic when he was initially skeptical of its value. However, after learning about the current monetary system and how it drives inflation, he became convinced that bitcoin is a better store of value. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the difference between bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as well as the benefits of self-custody.

Boyd's views on traditional financial advice for soccer players are also critical. He believes that using bitcoin can help create sustainable wealth, not just short-term profits. "We're talking generational wealth, if you get it right," he said. "Generations of families being set up for life. I think that's how big it is."

Boyd isn't the only sports personality to support bitcoin. Others include NFL players Russell Okung and Odell Beckham Jr., who have also spoken about the benefits of using bitcoin. Jacobi Asset Management, which listed Europe's first bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in 2023, sees bitcoin as an ideal asset for athletes with a short earning window.

"Retiring in your 30s means that you need to make the wealth you've accumulated last possibly another 60 years," said Peter Lane, co-founder of Jacobi Asset Management. "We feel that bitcoin is in an ideal position to offer that."
