n a bold move to revitalize Jackson's neighborhoods, the city is launching a Real Estate Developer Training Camp in partnership with Grow America. This innovative program aims to tackle urban blight and boost property values by empowering emerging developers with the skills and resources they need to succeed.
The initiative stems from a pressing issue: the lack of housing options in south and west Jackson corridors. Two years ago, city officials identified this challenge as a top priority and began working with the Lincoln Institute to find solutions. They soon realized that the root cause was a shortage of developers who understood the development process, from identifying properties to securing funding.
To address this gap, the city has partnered with Grow America, an organization that provides real estate developer training and access to financing resources. The 18-month training camp will equip participants with the knowledge and expertise needed to tackle housing, commercial development, and community revitalization projects across Jackson.
The program's curriculum includes one week of mandatory in-person training, followed by a comprehensive online course. Applications are now open, with a deadline of April 15. A $200 participation fee covers program materials, but aspiring developers are encouraged to apply regardless of financial constraints.
This initiative is part of the city's broader effort to revitalize neighborhoods and support local entrepreneurs. By empowering emerging developers, Jackson aims to create a more vibrant and prosperous community for all its residents.
