Lynchburg City Council to Host Public Hearing on Real Estate Tax Assessment

Lynchburg City Council to hold public hearing on real estate tax Monday night.

L
ynchburg City Council is holding a crucial public hearing on Monday to discuss the real estate tax rate. The council has been debating the issue for weeks, with just days left to pass a budget before July 1st. At stake is Councilman Chris Faraldi's proposal to raise the tax rate by $1.025 per 100 of assessed value and eliminate the car tax.

However, other council members, including Martin Misjuns and Curt Diemer, disagree. They want to keep the tax rate at just under 77 cents per 100 of assessed value, citing concerns that Faraldi's plan would result in a 34% tax increase if home values continue to rise. Faraldi has argued that his proposal saves families more money.

The public hearing will take place on Monday at 7 p.m. in City Hall. Council members have expressed strong opinions on the issue, with Misjuns and Diemer calling Faraldi's plan an "extraordinary tax increase." The outcome of the hearing will be crucial in determining the city's budget for the upcoming year.
