NYC's rare active lighthouse and private home for sale at $1.49M

Parma, NY lighthouse on Lake Ontario shines bright after over a century for $1.49 million

T
he Braddock Point Lighthouse, one of New York's last operational lighthouses, has hit the market for $1.49 million. This 130-year-old property in Parma, near Rochester, is a rare gem that still shines over Lake Ontario.

Built in 1895 and first lit in 1896, the lighthouse was commissioned by Congress to close a navigation gap along Lake Ontario's southern shore. It features an ornate lantern room, cast-iron stairway, and third-order Fresnel lens salvaged from the Cleveland Lighthouse. After being decommissioned in 1954 due to structural damage, it underwent extensive renovations in the 1990s, culminating in its reconstruction to 65 feet and reactivation in 1996.

Today, while the US Coast Guard maintains the beacon and inspects it annually, the rest of the property is privately owned. The listing includes a 3,000-square-foot Victorian keeper's home with a large kitchen, formal dining room, sunroom, and at least three bedrooms and four bathrooms. The lighthouse itself is attached to the home via a narrow spiral staircase leading to a lookout with sweeping views.

The property also features an 1,800-square-foot carriage house with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a six-car garage. Historical documents, blueprints, original furnishings, and other ephemera have been preserved through the years. The current owner has operated it as a private residence and Airbnb since purchasing it in 2020.

As Harlan Furbush, the Keller Williams Realty agent representing the listing, notes, "The house retains a lot of its original integrity... There's just so much great history here." This rare opportunity to own a piece of maritime history is now available for a new owner to cherish and preserve.
