oanoke City Council to Tackle Valuations and Development Plans
On Monday, the Roanoke City Council will convene for a briefing on this year's projected valuations, led by KC Bratton, Director of Real Estate Valuation. The presentation is expected to shed light on the appeals process, which has seen an uptick in recent years.
According to previous reports, Roanoke's total assessed value is projected to increase by 8.23% from July 2024 assessments, with residential values rising by a staggering 10.92%. This year alone, the real estate valuation office received 392 appeals, totaling nearly $75 million in disputed value. Notably, 31.2% of these appeals resulted in decreased assessments.
The council will also consider two public hearings during their evening session. The first pertains to Shiffer Properties' proposal to modify proffered conditions for the Harley-Davidson property on Peters Creek Road Northwest. The owner seeks to sell a single-family dwelling no longer needed for business operations.
Additionally, the council will hold a hearing on the Housing and Urban Development Consolidated Plan 2025-2029 and the 2025 Annual Action Plan. This plan outlines the city's resource allocation strategy for the next five years, focusing on housing, homelessness, human services, and neighborhood development. The annual plan details funding priorities.
Residents interested in reviewing the plans and agenda can access them online. The council meeting will take place at 2 p.m., with public hearings scheduled for 7 p.m. in the city council chamber, located on the fourth floor of the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building.
