OSMAB Holding AG has successfully completed the construction of the new police station in the NEOBEL quarter in Frechen. The new building was handed over to the Rhein-Erft-Kreis District Police Authority as planned at the end of June. This handover marks the beginning of the furnishing phase, during which the premises will be technically and organisationally prepared for service operations. Full operational readiness is scheduled for the end of September.
Anton Mertens, Chairman of the Board of OSMAB Holding AG, praised the timely completion of a project of this magnitude. He emphasised that the police were provided with a building that combines modern working conditions with high functionality and sustainability. The District Administrator of Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Frank Rock, added that the new police service building creates excellent conditions for modern police work in the region and represents a clear commitment to public safety.
Comprehensive Realisation and Collaborations
The project involved the cooperation of various stakeholders from the public and private sectors. Participants included the City of Frechen, the Rhein-Erft-Kreis District Police Authority, the Cologne District Government, the State Office for Central Police Services North Rhine-Westphalia (LZPD), and the general contractor GOLDBECK. Aldijana Kolic, Managing Partner of GOLDOCT Real Estate GmbH, highlighted the trusting and constructive collaboration with the City of Frechen, Rhein-Erft-Kreis and the District Police Authority, which enabled the scheduled execution of the construction project. Mr Mertens noted that public infrastructure projects, in particular, place high demands on planning, coordination, and implementation, and thanked all involved for their commitment.
The new building, spanning approximately 2,500 square metres, was specifically tailored to the needs of the police. Across three full storeys, it provides space for a police station staffed around the clock, as well as modern office and administrative areas. A secure outdoor area with an underground car park and parking spaces complements the site. The building was constructed to the energy-efficient KfW-40 standard and features a photovoltaic system on the roof, air-to-water heat pumps, and a ventilation system with heat recovery. This energy concept aims for resource-saving operation and a reduction in energy costs.
Development of the NEOBEL Quarter
The completion of the police station represents significant progress for the NEOBEL quarter. The development of the area will continue in the coming years. Further infrastructure measures and amenities are planned to contribute to the diversification of the quarter. The long-term goal is to create a mixed-use urban quarter that integrates public infrastructure, workplaces, housing, and local amenities, thereby supporting the development of Frechen.
- —Planned medical centre with catering for local provision.
- —Provisions for assisted living.
- —Construction of a multi-storey car park to alleviate the parking situation.
With the new police station, another central component of the urban development concept has been realised. The continued development of the NEOBEL quarter aims to create added value for citizens and the sustainable development of the City of Frechen.
