Steven Van Zandt, known as the guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and as Silvio Dante in "The Sopranos", has put his duplex penthouse in Manhattan on the market. The asking price for the property, located in a former church building, is US$18.995 million. Van Zandt acquired the property in 2008 with his wife Maureen for US$6 million, one year after the HBO series ended.
The two-storey penthouse is located in the Novare Condominium in Greenwich Village. It is part of the former Washington Square Methodist Church dating from 1860, which still retains its original stained-glass windows and wooden ceilings. The property combines historical elements with modern luxury.
Penthouse Features
The entrance to the duplex penthouse leads directly into an upper entertainment area with approximately 6-metre high ceilings, beneath which exposed ventilation ducts run under the original vaulted wooden ceiling. A glass wall next to the entrance door offers a view of the building's large stained-glass window at the front. The space opens further into a dining area with a round table and seating, as well as a green velvet sofa and a small bar.
In the main living area, the vaulted ceiling continues, where the living and kitchen areas are combined under the same exposed beams. The living space is arranged with sofa sets and sculptural chairs around a glass table. The modern kitchen features a large, marble-topped island with four bar stools. Dark cabinets surround the stainless steel appliances, while a graphic black-and-white tiled backsplash lines the work surfaces.
The upper floor is complemented by a private terrace of approximately 46 square metres, accessible through a folding glass wall. The terrace is paved with stone slabs and houses a dining area, a lounge, and an outdoor kitchen.
Lower Level and Private Rooms
A staircase leads to the lower level, where a central media room is located. This room features a long sectional sofa opposite the television, which is mounted between stained-glass panels. At the end of the media room, the main suite opens into a bedroom with many windows. A dark upholstered bed stands against a deep red accent wall, in front of which is a tufted sofa creating a small lounge area.
The red walls continue into a walk-in wardrobe, which includes hanging spaces, a crystal chandelier, and a full-length mirror. From there, the wardrobe leads into the main bathroom, which features a long wooden vanity unit beneath an oversized mirror, light tiles on the lower walls, and blue mosaic tiles around the shower.
On the other side of the media room is the second suite, which features a more colourful, eclectic design. The bedroom is framed by parts of the building's original stained-glass windows, with the bed facing the windows. The accompanying bathroom is in white and pink with gold embellishments and features star motifs on the ceiling as well as peacock feather artwork on the walls. A double vanity unit is centrally placed between a dark-tiled tub and open glass shelving.
