EUROPA-Galerie Saarbrücken welcomes Jan-Niklas Maas as its new Centre Manager. Mr Maas, an expert in the retail sector, took charge of the inner-city shopping centre on 1 September. He succeeds Maximilian Schmid, who held the position on an interim basis since November 2025 and is now returning to the centre management of Riem Arcaden.
In his new role, Jan-Niklas Maas will be responsible for the operational and economic running of EUROPA-Galerie and its strategic development. The largest shopping centre in the Saarland state capital is to be further developed under his leadership, in collaboration with the Sonae Sierra team, tenants, and regional partners, to enhance its appeal.
Expertise and Regional Roots
Jan-Niklas Maas brings a decade of experience from the retail and textile industries. Over the past ten years, the native of Saarland has held various management positions. During this time, he acquired comprehensive expertise in sales, management, marketing & communication, customer orientation, and location development.
Christine Hager, Director Property Management at Sonae Sierra in Germany, commented on the new appointment, stating that Jan-Niklas Maas is a leader who combines strategic thinking with operational experience. His expertise and understanding of modern retail locations would make a significant contribution to the further development of EUROPA-Galerie Saarbrücken.
Maximilian Schmid expressed his delight at the handover to Mr Maas and the work accomplished previously. He voiced his conviction that Mr Maas would successfully continue the positive development of the centre. Jan-Niklas Maas himself emphasised that Saarbrücken has been his home for over ten years. He was pleased to now also take on professional responsibility for this location, which represents an integral part of everyday life for many people. He intends to further strengthen EUROPA-Galerie as a shopping destination and meeting point for the region, with the needs of visitors and cooperation with tenants and local stakeholders at the forefront.
