The Designer Motel glockna in Fusch, on the Großglocknerstraße, has presented its first sample room. This comes about five months before the planned opening and offers insights into the interior design concept. The design integrates nature, design, and regional building culture, using local materials, clean lines, and a minimalist, timeless aesthetic.

The sample room illustrates the connection to the surrounding Hohe Tauern National Park. It serves as a reference for the future accommodation units, including 13 single-storey and two double-storey suites, a rooftop suite, and five BergHäuser (mountain houses). The design adopts the characteristics of the Großglockner region and reinterprets them. Elements such as nature and technology, tradition and innovation, as well as relaxation and dynamism are linked together.

Materiality and Spatial Concept

Inside the sample room, local wood types combine with earthy elements and metals. This creates a connection between groundedness and energy. Natural wood is used in various forms, from parquet flooring to wall and ceiling panelling. Organically shaped stone tiles, each unique, complement the material concept.

Large window areas actively integrate the surrounding nature into the room design, acting as an extended part of the interior architecture. The interplay of summer greenery and the blue of the sky harmonises and contrasts with the wood and earth tones used in the room. The effect varies depending on the time of day and the intensity of natural light. Targeted lighting creates individual zones for various activities such as conversation, reading or relaxation.

The concept aims to blur the boundaries between the interior space and the surrounding mountain world. Through the selection of materials and the design of the openings to the outside, a unity is created that allows residents an immersive nature experience without sacrificing the comfort of a modern living concept. The completion of the sample room marks a significant step in the project development of the Designer Motel glockna.
