Global investment firm H.I.G. Capital, which manages around 75 billion US dollars in assets, has acquired a majority stake in Italian infrastructure platform L4A through an affiliated company. The existing shareholders and co-managing directors will remain with the company and continue to lead L4A during the upcoming growth phase, ensuring continuity in management and strategic direction.
L4A is headquartered in the Northern Italian province of Bergamo, approximately 30 kilometres from Milan. The company focuses on the maintenance, refurbishment and modernisation of critical facilities and operates in the market via three specialised subsidiaries: Artifoni, LSE and MPM. The range of services is aimed at established infrastructure operators and large utility companies, encompassing integrated services from planning to execution.
Specialised areas of activity and operational service spectrum
L4A's operational priorities lie in sensitive utility and transport segments. Providing turnkey comprehensive solutions, the company covers both civil engineering works and mechanical installations:
- —Airside infrastructure facilities at commercial airports
- —Municipal and industrial water infrastructure
- —Network structures in the field of district heating supply
Expansion plans and future market orientation
Following the investor's entry, L4A intends to intensify its growth trajectory through organic initiatives and targeted add-on acquisitions. The objective of the partnership is to consolidate the existing market position and expand into adjacent segments such as water treatment, the energy sector and strategic transport routes. There are also plans to enrich the offering with higher-value-added stages of service and to widen the geographical footprint.
Raffaele Legnani and Giovanni Guglielmi, Managing Directors of H.I.G. in Italy, pointed to the stable structural demand trends in the refurbishment of system-critical infrastructure. They reiterated their intention to combine the company's operational capabilities with a disciplined acquisition strategy while maintaining its proven corporate culture.
L4A Managing Directors Roberto Paganessi and Andrea Diani described the investment as a decisive step in the company's development. Combining L4A's industrial execution capabilities with H.I.G.'s capital resources facilitates expansion into new markets, whilst the technical expertise and existing workforce will continue to form the foundation of the platform.
