ID Logistics Germany is expanding its XL contract logistics division. This includes storage, handling, and additional services for goods that require special attention due to their size and weight. The opening ceremony for a new fulfilment centre took place on 12 September 2026 in Mittelweserpark, Lower Saxony. The facility, which consists of three halls, is primarily designed for the XL segment in e-commerce.
On a total area of 35,000 square metres, up to 7,000 items with special dimensions and weights of up to 180 kg can be stored there. The operational concept of the facility serves two primary logistics models. On the one hand, online shipments are prepared for distribution in the shortest possible time, with the option of dispatch within two hours of order receipt. On the other hand, cross-docking is used for onward shipping without prior storage, within a maximum of four hours.
Strategic Alignment and Operational Efficiency
Sergie Schiller, Head of XL at ID Logistics Germany, stated that the new facility is designed for significant growth and is already experiencing high demand, particularly in the cross-docking area. The fast turnaround times and route-optimised processes enable a significant increase in volumes. In Germany, ID Logistics Germany manages a total area of over 100,000 square metres in XL contract logistics, extending from Lower Saxony across the Frankfurt area to southern Germany. According to Schiller, the company has built up extensive expertise in developing intralogistic concepts for heavy and bulky items through various projects, from which every new site benefits, creating synergy effects.
The experience gained also went into the preparation of the new site. Part of the team completed a three-week training course at the specialised Göttingen site to familiarise themselves with the relevant operations and processes. This enabled the operational start-up in Mittelweserpark without a long ramp-up phase. The number of employees is expected to grow to a total of 150.
Technology and Site Importance
ID Logistics Germany's entry into the market for heavy and bulky consumer goods took place in 2018 with the distribution centre in Göttingen. There, processes are continuously developed for efficiency, sustainability, and ergonomics across approximately 60,000 square metres of storage space. The experience acquired there forms the basis for the storage concept in Mittelweserpark and the professional handling of large-format goods. Examples of these items include garden sheds, table tennis tables, and sofas. The equipment is specially adapted to these formats; table tennis tables are stored in special mesh shelves, while sofas and garden sheds are placed on colettes – open load carriers for oversized goods. White goods are mostly processed with clamp forklifts. The combination of bulk storage and high-bay racking areas allows for storage tailored to the respective goods. For intralogistic transport, 40 industrial trucks, including several custom-made designs, were acquired.
Robin Otto, Managing Director of ID Logistics Germany, emphasised the cross-sector activity at the XL sites in Germany. This broad orientation allows for targeted expansion of expertise in areas such as furniture, household appliances, leisure equipment, and high-tech in new projects. The goal is to establish itself as a comprehensive expert in XL contract logistics.
With the opening of the XL distribution centre, ID Logistics Germany has fully occupied Mittelweserpark. The logistics park has a total area of more than 110,000 square metres and is located in the Hanover metropolitan region. Jens Beckmeyer, Mayor of the Samtgemeinde Mittelweser, and Jens Lange, Mayor of the municipality of Estorf, see the development of Mittelweserpark as an important impetus for the economic location. They highlighted that ID Logistics' settlement strengthens Mittelweserpark and the region alike, creating diverse employment opportunities and offering additional economic perspectives. The full occupancy of the property within just two years demonstrates the strong demand for logistics space in the region, whose central geographical location in the triangle between Hanover, Bremen, and Ostwestfalen-Lippe, as well as good access to the regional labour market, offer optimal conditions for logistics structures and further growth.
