Lagardère Travel Retail Germany has been awarded the contract for the development and operation of a new food court at Berlin Zoologischer Garten station. This project positions the location as a central hub for travellers, commuters, visitors, and residents of City West, integrating the food court into the existing infrastructure between the S-Bahn and long-distance train halls.
The food court's concept is based on a comprehensive renovation of the area and envisages the implementation of four specific gastronomic concepts. The approach combines international brands with elements of artisanal quality and modern grab-and-go offerings to address diverse culinary needs. The focus is on creating an inviting atmosphere and high-quality store design that harmoniously integrates into the urban environment of Zoo station.
Innovative Concepts and Market Entries
A key feature of the new offering is the introduction of innovative gastronomic concepts. Panda Express, a well-known brand for American-Chinese cuisine, will open its first regular location in Germany outside of US military bases here. This step marks the brand's official entry into the German market. Furthermore, NENI Deli celebrates its premiere outside of an airport location. The portfolio is complemented by a cooperation with Zeit für Brot, which offers artisan baked goods made with Bioland ingredients.
- —Panda Express: First regular location in Germany for American-Chinese cuisine.
- —NENI Deli: Introduction of Levantine-inspired cuisine outside the airport sector.
- —Zeit für Brot: Artisan baked goods with Bioland ingredients and long dough fermentation.
- —Coffee Fellows: Established German coffee shop brand for speciality coffees, bagels, and snacks.
Jochen Halfmann, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail Germany, emphasised in this context that the contract award is a significant step for the company's growth strategy in the foodservice sector. He highlighted that, together with Deutsche Bahn, a modern gastronomic offering will be created at one of Berlin's most important mobility hubs, appealing to both travellers and people in City West. The mix of international brands, innovative concepts, and high quality demonstrates the strategic orientation towards developing travel locations into vibrant places of enjoyment.
The food court is designed to combine the dynamism of a railway station with the requirements for modern design, a pleasant atmosphere, and contemporary indulgence. Additional service windows ensure direct accessibility for quick takeaway. The offering ranges from quick coffee and fresh baked goods to straightforward takeaway options and opportunities for relaxed on-site dining, taking into account the high footfall of the location.
