A
piece of architectural history has changed hands. The former home of Frank Lloyd Wright, nestled within the iconic Plaza Private Residences, has entered into contract. This four-bedroom corner condo boasts a prime perch overlooking Central Park and was listed for $18.9 million in February.
Wright's time at the Plaza was marked by his supervision of the Guggenheim Museum's construction on the Upper East Side. The architect spent five years within these walls, entertaining luminaries like Marilyn Monroe and King Faisal II of Iraq alongside his wife Olgivanna Lloyd Wright.
The condo's expansive living room is bathed in natural light courtesy of two walls of windows. Its 13-foot ceilings, Venetian plaster walls, custom moldings, and mosaic tilework evoke the elegance of a bygone era. The sellers, James Cohen and Lisa Cohen, undertook extensive renovations led by architect Louis Lisboa and interior designer Susanna Maggard after purchasing the home in 2009 for $13 million.
The sale's details remain under wraps, with brokers declining to disclose the final price or the identity of the forthcoming owner. Charlie Attias of Compass, who represented the sellers, hailed the deal as a positive sign that the Plaza Private Residences are gaining momentum.
