21-year-old man, Audrik Matevosian, pleaded not guilty to the murder of well-known real estate agent Robert "Bob" Boyajian in a Madera County court on Friday. Matevosian had previously confessed to authorities that he killed Boyajian, a 75-year-old prominent figure in Fresno County, last weekend. The suspect's parents released a statement expressing their shock and devastation over the crime, saying they don't condone Matevosian's actions.
According to the Madera County Sheriff's office, Matevosian planned the murder for financial gain and had even purchased a body bag from Amazon a week prior. He allegedly changed his story multiple times before confessing to killing Boyajian around midnight on Saturday and burying him in a cave in the Mojave desert.
Matevosian was appointed a public defender and appeared emotional in court, but evidence suggests he is guilty of murder, using a gun, and three special circumstances that make bail impossible. Madera County Assistant District Attorney Jeff Dupras said charges were filed specifically for murder, as well as using a gun and the special circumstances, which will keep Matevosian behind bars until trial.
The case is expected to take up to two years to wind through the court system, according to Dupras. Matevosian's next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, with a preliminary hearing set for the following Monday.
