Allgemeine SÜDBODEN conducted a survey on on-site behaviour and home office at Campus Neue Balan in Munich, a hub for companies employing around 8,500 people. The results of the survey, which took place from 2 February to 16 March 2026, reveal a clear preference for specific weekdays concerning office usage.

Tuesday and Thursday show the highest on-site presence. On Tuesday, 85.3 per cent of respondents were physically present, and on Thursday, 84.6 per cent. Wednesday was only slightly lower at 83.1 per cent. On Mondays, 53.7 per cent of respondents were in the company, while Friday recorded the lowest presence rate at 39.0 per cent. This pattern was consistently observed across small, medium-sized, and large companies.

Assessments of Learning Curve and Career Development

A key aspect of the survey concerns the evaluation of learning and development opportunities in the office. 78.3 per cent of participants agreed with the statement that they learn more in the office through exchange, observation, and mentoring than in the home office. This assessment is also reflected in relation to the career development of younger professionals: 52.2 per cent of respondents expressed the view that particularly younger colleagues might jeopardise their careers if they make excessive use of the home office. Of these, 16.7 per cent had no opinion, while 13 per cent did not agree with this statement at all.

Regarding their own working patterns, 72.2 per cent of respondents stated that they are generally physically present three or more days per week. Of these, 29.8 per cent account for three on-site days and 19.9 per cent for four on-site days. A further 22.5 per cent reported being active on campus all five working days of the week.

Preferences for Flexible Working Models

The survey results indicate a preference for flexible working models. The model of two home office days per week received the highest approval among participants (43.9 per cent). A large proportion of respondents also expressed concerns about the home office behaviour of some colleagues: 53.7 per cent believed that individual colleagues overuse the home office and should come into the office more often.

Bettina Krause, Head of Lettings at Allgemeine SÜDBODEN, commented on the results, stating that a working model combining on-site and home office days optimally balances the interests of employees and companies. For landlords, this means that offices with a flexible mix of classic workstations and spaces for meetings and collaborations are particularly in demand.
