The redevelopment of the Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum (RRZ) is making substantial progress with the handover of spaces to Kaufland, Müller, and McFIT. The three companies will now begin fitting out their leased areas to prepare for their respective openings. This handover initiates a new, visible phase in the transformation of the RRZ.
The new anchor tenants are establishing themselves across significant areas. Kaufland occupies the largest of the new retail spaces with approximately 4,500 square metres of sales area. A consumer market offering an extensive range of groceries and daily necessities will be realised there. Müller is moving into approximately 2,400 square metres and will offer a full product range including cosmetics, drugstore items, stationery, toys, and haberdashery. The total area for Kaufland and Müller combined amounts to around 9,700 square metres. McFIT complements the offering in the fitness and leisure segment. The company will comprehensively renovate its premises and equip them with new facilities.
In recent months, the premises were prepared for the new tenants as part of the ongoing redesign of the Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum. Following the completion of the necessary demolition and preparatory work, the spaces have now been handed over. This step moves the project into its next stage: individual tenant fit-outs and concrete preparations for operational commencement. Parallel to the work inside the building, extensive measures are being carried out on the exterior. The area around the new building will be reconfigured, including the creation of new entrances and access routes, to give the RRZ a contemporary appearance.
According to current plans, the new offerings from Kaufland, Müller, and McFIT are scheduled to open successively in spring 2027. These three tenants strengthen the Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum by generating footfall and strategically complementing the existing industry mix. Their integration is part of the comprehensive redevelopment of the site.
The Eurofund Group and its partners are investing approximately 180 million Euros in the modernisation and repositioning of the Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum over the coming years. The strategic goal of this investment is to strengthen the RRZ as a central hub for shopping, leisure, and community in the Rhine-Ruhr region. The recent handover to the tenants represents a significant structural and organisational step. While individual interior fit-outs are underway, further measures are being implemented within the centre to continuously optimise both the portfolio of offerings and the quality of stay. The upcoming openings in spring 2027 represent a significant advance in the ongoing transformation of the Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum.
