The city of Seville anticipates the opening of a new hotel project in the iconic La Gavidia building. The Thompson Seville is scheduled to commence operations in late 2026 on Plaza de la Concordia in the old town, following the already successful opening of the Thompson Madrid. This marks the first property of the Thompson Hotels brand in Andalusia and continues the expansion of its portfolio in Spain.
The hotel project is designed to respect the architectural significance of the La Gavidia building while integrating a contemporary hotel concept. It will feature 101 rooms and suites, complemented by a rooftop pool, a fitness centre, event spaces, and a culinary offering. The overall concept aims to incorporate Seville's history and culture and create a meeting point for international guests and local visitors alike.
The original La Gavidia building, designed by Ramón Montserrat Ballesté, is considered a landmark of Seville's modern architecture. The transformation by design studio Proyecto Singular prioritises the preservation of the architectural character while establishing a new use. The 101 rooms and suites at the Thompson Seville will feature warm materials, natural finishes, and artisanal details, with subtle references to Andalusian identity. The offering includes rooms with city views, terrace suites, and a Thompson Suite with a private terrace.
Amar Lalvani, President & Creative Director, The Lifestyle Group, Hyatt, emphasised that the aim was not to simply transfer a generic Thompson blueprint to Seville, but to develop a hotel specifically tailored to the city. The choice of location in one of Seville's most renowned architectural structures underscores this approach.
The hotel's culinary concept was developed in collaboration with Grupo Manolo Mayo, a restaurant group specialising in Andalusian cuisine. The established restaurant Mayo Sevilla will vacate its current location and continue as Casa Mayo within the hotel. This will embody Seville's cuisine and hospitality, as explained by Miguel Ángel Álvarez, head of Grupo Manolo Mayo. The interior design by Pablo Baruc creates a contemporary setting for the gastronomic offerings.
The hotel will include various culinary areas: a lobby bar on the ground floor, which can be used from morning coffee to evening cocktails, as well as the Rooftop Pool Deck & Bar. The latter offers refreshing drinks, small dishes, and Andalusian influences in a relaxed atmosphere. A special offering of the lobby bar is the daily “Sherry Hour”.
For events, 240 square metres of space are available on the ground floor, divided into four separable rooms. These are equipped with audiovisual technology and can be used for meetings, presentations, or private celebrations. An adjacent inner courtyard offers additional flexibility for events within Seville's urban context. The opening in late 2026 will establish the Thompson Seville as a new offering in Seville's hotel landscape.
