Tribera and Aware Super have announced a strategic partnership aimed at establishing a student housing platform in Germany. An investment volume of over EUR 1 billion is available for this initiative. The project focuses on the development and acquisition of high-quality student housing properties, particularly in prime locations within Germany's top 7 markets, which include Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt.
The platform will seek investments across the entire risk spectrum. The goal is to unlock long-term value potential in this specific real estate sector. Within the framework of the partnership, Tribera will exclusively undertake asset, property, and development management. In doing so, the company will leverage its expertise in designing living spaces that are intended to foster community building and networking among student residents. This aims to create an environment that supports academic progress and the transition into professional life.
This new partnership aligns with Tribera's strategic direction following Macquarie Asset Management's entry in July 2025. It represents a consistent step aimed at connecting institutional capital with high-quality real estate assets across various markets and risk profiles. For Tribera, this signifies another milestone in the expansion of its pan-European platform.
Justin Hamer, Chief Executive Officer of Tribera, commented on the partnership. He emphasised that the creation of this new partnership underscores global investors' confidence in the fundamentals of the German student sector, as well as in Tribera's vision to transform urban living. He expressed his excitement about collaborating with Aware Super to create community-oriented living spaces in key cities that integrate innovation, sustainability, and customer service.
Mathieu Elshout, Head of International and Senior Portfolio Manager Property – UK at Aware Super, highlighted that the German purpose-built student accommodation market offers precisely the structural opportunities addressed by his company's global investment strategy. He pointed to a significant undersupply, strong and growing demand, and an attractive entry point as the market begins to institutionalise. The establishment of this partnership allows for geographical diversification of the real estate portfolio into Continental Europe and into a new alternative sector, in collaboration with experienced operators in European student housing.
James Bechely-Crundall, Managing Director at Macquarie Asset Management, added that his company's investment in Tribera aligns with its strategy to establish and incubate specialist real estate managers in segments that benefit from significant structural tailwinds. He expressed conviction that a scalable market opportunity exists in the European student housing sector and that Tribera is well-positioned to connect institutional capital with first-class real estate opportunities at scale. He looks forward to continued collaboration with the company and its capital partners to support their growth ambitions.
